Driving to Tarraleah

Tarraleah is placed off the Lyell Highway on the West Coast of Tasmania, halfway between Hobart and Strahan, along the Western Wilds Touring Route.

If coming from Hobart:

Located 2 hours from Hobart on the Lyell Highway.

Proceed through Glenorchy, then take the exit for New Norfolk. In New Norfolk, follow the signs for Ouse, Derwent Bridge and Lake St Claire. Approx 35 minutes past Ouse you will see signs for Tarraleah and the turn off is on your right.

If coming from Strahan:

Proceed east along the Lyell Highway, passing through Queenstown, Derwent Bridge and past the Bronte Park turn off and Bradys Lake. You know you are close when you see the massive pipes at the Tarraleah power station. At the top of the hill, exit left to Tarraleah.

If coming from Launceston:

You can stick to the Midland Highway (recommended in snowy winter months), turn at Melton Mowbray,  to Bothwell and head on until joining the Lyell Highway,  turning right, and following through Hamilton, Ouse and turning right at the 2 big silver water pipes aprox 35 minutes after Ouse.

You can also reach Tarraleah through the Central Lakes District via Poatina (B51), coming through to Bronte Park before rejoining the Lyell Highway, turning left and continuing past the 2 power stations (Tungahtinah andTarraleah) heading back up the Hill, past the Golf Course and turning left at the 2 big silver water pipes.

Once at Tarraleah

Follow the Hydro pipe work into town and turn left at the Tarraleah Lodge corner. To check in,drive down the hill  past The lodge and the Art Deco Cottages into the centre of the Estate. Look for the Reception building located opposite the Main Square (there is a large sign on the roof).
